It does leave much more room around the top of the foot and around the ankle. I thought the way the boot fit was quite cute as I was looking for more a motorcycle fit boot, which this is closer to. Also, I found the boot to fit a little big. I am usually a 7.5 when it comes to flats or sandals, and order a size 8 in boots, which has worked for me close to 100% of the time, but I found this size 8 to fit like an 8 1/2.
